This scarf is carefully folded and the clamped tightly between two cross-shaped wooden blocks before it is immersed into the indigo vat and soaked. After it is removed from the vat and unclamped, unfolded and opened fully, the pattern is revealed. The areas clamped tightly did not take up the dye. This is known as itajime shibori in Japan. It is 15″ wide and 64″ long. Pure silk.
