Description
Ikat is one of the most complex textile processes in the world of cloth. It is made by first tying and dyeing either the weft or the warp threads before the cloth is woven. It is carefully measured and planned so that the resulting cloth will have the desired design after it is woven. It is a labor intensive process requiring highly skilled artisans. In Cambodia this cloth is called matmee.
