Description
Batik cap (pronounced tjap) is a wax resist process in which the wax is applied with a copper stamp. It was developed as an alternative to hand drawn batik because the cloth could be produced faster and cheaper. Applying the wax evenly and registering it properly to make a pattern that look hand drawn requires great skill. It is usually done by men. After the wax has been applied, the cloth is immersed in the dye bath, and the wax removed by immersing it in boiling water.
